Eric here:

I was introduced to long bike trips when I rode across the U.S. in 199?. Many years later I befriended a gentleman who had ridden his bike around the world. He inspired me, if not to ride around the world, at least to go on another extended bike trip. The idea simmered for several years until Amee suggested that we ride from the top of the Americas to the bottom. That was in February. For the past few months, we have planned the trip in a way sure to maximize adventure.

Our planned route is to head southeast from Fairbanks through Yukon, British Colombia and Alberta. We will cross the United States border into Montana and follow the Continental Divide on mountain bike trails. After New Mexico we will head down the Baja peninsula, take a ferry over to the Mexican mainland and follow the coast through Central America. In Panama, we will fly over to Colombia and then follow the Pan American highway through Ecuador, Peru and Chile to the edge of the world. We are looking forward to lots of downhill because as everyone knows – south is down.
